Blue Devils Finish The Season In Second Place
The Blue Devils had a strong finish to the season, and enter the playoff round solidly in second place!

The Devils entered the final weekend of regular season play with two difficult games against strong opponents. Game one on Friday saw the BDs taking on the strong Stoney Creek 10 group. Their previous meeting was a tight one, so the BD faithful were expecting much the same in this contest.

The BDs were first on the board with a fantastic first period goal from the new offensive superstar, Owen Clarke (assisted by Dustin Hine). The goal was spectacular, and the fact that Clarke was assisted by a defenseman was made even more impressive by the fact that the BDs were without defensive star Tyler Dinya, and they were rotating on a 3-man circuit.....I'm sure Pain, Allemang and Hine slept well Friday night! The fans were kept on the edge of their seats, however, as Stoney Creek evened the score near the end of the first period. The score remained tied through the second period (the BDs needed playmaker Drew Pardy, who was also missing from Friday night's contest). Entering the third period, Jakob Kubisch decided early that we needed to put this game in the bag, and scored with a great shot, assisted once again by Hine. This was all the BDs, and netminder ace Jakob Bruton-Smith, needed to propel to victory.....and they emerged with a narrow, but exciting, 2-1 win.

Sunday the BDs faced the #1 PW3 team in a dinnertime contest - much to the dismay of the NFL fans in the crowd. In a game with a good number of penalties the contest saw the PW3 team scoring late in the first period, as well as late in the second period. Heading into the third period the BDs were down by a score of 2-0.  Things looked bleak....until midway through the third period when, shorthanded, defenseman Luke Pain cleared the zone with a long pass to the stick of Jakob Kubisch....who thoroughly deked out the PW3 netminder and scored a beauty. Although the BDs had a number of great scoring opportunities throughout the game, a strong PW3 goalie and some unlucky post shots kept the BDs off of the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, and the BDs fell short by a narrow margin of 2-1. Not at all disheartened, the BDs will enter the playoff round knowing that they can compete with every team in Pool A.

Of note over this weekend is the ever-improving play of BD forwards Nicholas Clark, Michael Swayze, Chase Peart (or "Bruiser" as we like to call him....) and Jack MacDonald. They have really, really shown impressive improvement over the course of this season, and have been instrumental to the performance of the BD team. Their unselfish and team-centered play may not get them on the scoresheet as often as they would like, but their importance to the team does not go unnoticed. Fans and coaching staff alike are often heard praising the play of these Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils have no scheduled games this weekend, but fear not, faithful fans - they will be hard at work at the practice facility this weekend, in preparation for next week's first round games. BDs will play each of the teams in Pool A in a home-home series, after which the top 4 will be ranked and enter the semifinals. Teams in Pool A include the Blue Devils, PW3, PW2, Cayuga, Hagersville 8 and Glanbrook 6. Work hard this weekend boys - now is when the preparation in practice, and all of the hard work of the players and coaching staff, will prove to be the most important. Go Blue!
