Thunder Rebound in 2nd Half of Home-and-Home
Zach A's return to the U11 Team 1 lineup came at a great time, as he scored the game winning goal, leading the Thunder past Dunnville Team #2 in the second game of a home-and-home series.
Caledonia came out strong right from the opening faceoff, with Noah K assisting Chase W on his first goal of three on the night, giving the Thunder the 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game.
Dunnville responded, scoring two goals to take the lead, but the Thunder came back before the end of the period. Fletcher F tapped home a puck on the assist by James G, and Chase W scored his second goal of the game to give Caledonia the 3-2 lead after one period of play.
The second period saw the Thunder play arguably their best period of hockey on the season, playing stifling defense and clearing the puck out of their end regularly. Zach A gave Caledonia the 4-2 lead on his first goal of the season, and James G scored with an assist from Davin S to extend Caledonia's lead. Not to be outdone, Dunnville responded with a goal, making the score 5-3 for the Thunder at the second intermission.
Faced with the same score against the same team after two periods of play, the Thunder held fast on defence in the third period, keeping the Mudcats at bay. Blake L broke out of his end midway through the period, getting by several defenders and taking a shot on net, getting the assist as Chase W fired the puck in the back of the net to collect the hat-trick.
