Why your Coach says what he does.... The Science of Scoring
Hello Everyone,

Please find the enclosed a link to an article and fact sheet about scoring in the NHL put out by OMHA.

People will often hear me say things like
- drive the net
- wrist shots are better than slap shots
- get your nose in their (meaning in front of the net)
- get a dirty goal

Science of Scoring

In short, stats prove all other arguments wrong
- the closer you are to the net, the more likely you score
- wrist shots account for half the goals scored in the NHL
- slaps shots account for less than 1 in 9 goals
- consider that the Pro's can riffle a slap shot and very few kids below bantam, even Midget for that case can take a proper hard slap shot

When I coach, I am coaching for our player's success, our team's success.  If you child wants to score, best to understand what gives them the best chance to do so.  Have your kids' print this out and read it.
