Both teams were excited to play one another for the first time this season, as they have been often practicing and scrimmaging together throughout the first month so far. Many of the players have friends on the other team, making it a fun and exciting match-up for both squads.
The first period was a defensive struggle for both teams, with Layton H, Mason A, Davin S, Jo T, and Niko P playing strong for Team 1 to clear the puck from their end multiple times.
In the second period, Team 1's forwards began pressing the attack in Team 2's end. Callum W, Dominic P, Spencer K, Fletcher F, Nolan G, and Corbin D all had chances on net, keeping the puck in offensive territory for much of the period.
The 0-0 score would be broken halfway through the period, as Bennet H tapped home a rebound in front of the net, scoring his first goal of the season to give Team 1 the lead. On the powerplay late in the period, Zac A would score to give Team 1 a 2-0 lead, and then a 2nd powerplay goal with 28 seconds left in the period by Zac A would leave the score 3-0 heading into the 3rd.
The third period saw both teams go back and forth on offence, with goalie Dawson F making several key saves to keep Team 1 in the lead. Zac A would complete the hat-trick in the 3rd, before Team 2 would score, the game finishing with a score of 4-1 for Team 1.
Spencer K was awarded player of the game for Team 1 with strong two-way play in both the offensive and defensive zones.
Team 1 looks forward to a busy week, with games against Dunnville (Thursday), Hagersville #3 (Saturday) and Hagersville #1 (Sunday).
