It was 40 years ago when Paul Herrewynen decided to get into business for himself. Working in construction since he was 16, Herrewynen was good at building things and thought that could make a nice career for him. Soon after, his younger brother Len joined him. In this day and age, where it’s rare for a family business to reach the 40th anniversary, the Herrewynen brothers never imagined they’d be celebrating 40 years of business. But now, hundreds of custom-built homes later, the Herrewynen family is enjoying the good name they’ve built for themselves. “We’re quality conscious,” Paul says. “And so are our subcontractors. They know what we expect and that is the best.” While business has been through some peaks and valleys, the business has persevered and thrived building houses within a 15 to 20 mile radius around Simcoe. “I’ve always thought I live in the most wonderful area in the world,” Herrewynen said. As more people discover what a beautiful area Norfolk County is, big businesses are coming in and setting up shop. “But we’re different,” Paul says. “The important thing is we take time with our customers to create a design that they want. It’s very hands-on.” Herrewynen Custom Homes continues to build beautiful homes to compliment a customer’s individual taste and our glorious countryside. “No cookie cutter homes here,” he said. “We give homes a personal touch.” What sets Herrewynen Homes apart is their close working relationship with customers. Sometimes customers become friends, inviting the Herrewynen brothers back to see their newly decorated homes. With a crew of five and a bevy of subcontractors, some who have been with Herrewynen since day one, Herrewynen Homes offers superior quality materials and superb finished product. While the business has been a family affair between the two brothers thus far, Paul hopes the name will carry on to continue to provide their quality, customer-driven craftsmanship to Norfolk County for another 40 years.×
