Atom AE Southern Counties Champions!
Atom AE Southern Counties Champions Saturday April 1, 2017 – Port Dover, ON This was no April Fools joke

Atom AE SC Final Game was scheduled for Sat at 10:30 am in Port Dover.  Tillsonburg (first overall) vs. Caledonia (second overall).  The game was delayed by almost 30 minutes due a double overtime in the game ahead of the Atom’s.

The boys met Tillsonburg 10 times this season  (2-6-2) – including a very exciting OMHA playdown series that went 6 games.  Caledonia did not win the series, but they certainly pushed themselves to go further than expected.

With the help of Coach Chris’ cranked tunes in the dressing room on Saturday, and the inspired words of Coach Andrew, Jay, Eric & Ken, the boys were fired up.  The squad hit the ice knowing they were the underdogs but they were out to win one last time.

The boys over came a few obstacles in this game.  Caledonia was leading 3-0 going into the 3rd.  Tillsonburg scored twice midway through the 3rd, making the score 3-2. Then with less than 4 minutes to go Caledonia gets 2 tough penalties.  Tillsonburg decided to capitalize on the man advantage even further by pulling their goalie  - making it a 6 on 3.

Caledonia cleared the puck a few times just missing the empty net.  Finally they were able to put one in the empty net, score was 4-2.  One penalty over and 2 minutes left in the 3rd .  Tillsonburg continues to have 6 skaters on the ice, while Caledonia has 4 for the remaining couple minutes.  Tillsonburg scores with less than a minute - now 4-3.

Caledonia pulls out all the stops to hold onto the lead and finish the game 4-3.  It was an exciting game from start to finish – each one of the boys playing their best game of the season under the direction of their awesome coaches.  These 15 boys came to win and despite their past record against Tilly all season long – it came down to one final game –  IT WAS SWEET VICTORY FOR CALEDONIA !!!

Victor's Cornerstone
The Founders Victor Walewski and his son Peter founded the restaurant in 1995 as a father and son team. Victor came to Canada on the Queen Mary in the 1950's and continue his trade in the culinary business. A classicly trained European chef, Mr. Walewski passed down his lifetime of experience to the next generation. Peter is currently the executive chef and operator of Victor's Cornerstone Restaurant. Our Location Caledonia is a small riverside community and former town located on the Grand River in Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada. Haldimand County is in the western part of the Niagara Peninsula, and had a population of over 45,000. Caledonia is located at the intersection of Highway 6 and Haldimand Highway 54 (within the town, these streets are called Argyle Street and Caithness Street respectively) on the Grand River. On Highway 6, the town is 10 km south of Hamilton and 10 km north of Hagersville. On Haldimand Highway 54, the town is 15 km east of Brantford, Ontario and 10 km west of Cayuga, Ontario. History Caledonia was once a small strip of land between Seneca and Oneida villages. The Grand River traveled through Caledonia dividing it into two sides, North and South. In 1834, Ranald McKinnon was hired by the Grand River Navigation company to build a dam in Seneca and a dam in Caledonia. Completed in 1840, the dams made water power available. Mills sprung up all over Seneca village, and five mills were built in Caledonia by 1850. One renamed Caledonia Mill is preserved but closed to visitors.
Herrewynen Homes Inc.
It was 40 years ago when Paul Herrewynen decided to get into business for himself. Working in construction since he was 16, Herrewynen was good at building things and thought that could make a nice career for him. Soon after, his younger brother Len joined him. In this day and age, where it’s rare for a family business to reach the 40th anniversary, the Herrewynen brothers never imagined they’d be celebrating 40 years of business. But now, hundreds of custom-built homes later, the Herrewynen family is enjoying the good name they’ve built for themselves. “We’re quality conscious,” Paul says. “And so are our subcontractors. They know what we expect and that is the best.” While business has been through some peaks and valleys, the business has persevered and thrived building houses within a 15 to 20 mile radius around Simcoe. “I’ve always thought I live in the most wonderful area in the world,” Herrewynen said. As more people discover what a beautiful area Norfolk County is, big businesses are coming in and setting up shop. “But we’re different,” Paul says. “The important thing is we take time with our customers to create a design that they want. It’s very hands-on.” Herrewynen Custom Homes continues to build beautiful homes to compliment a customer’s individual taste and our glorious countryside. “No cookie cutter homes here,” he said. “We give homes a personal touch.” What sets Herrewynen Homes apart is their close working relationship with customers. Sometimes customers become friends, inviting the Herrewynen brothers back to see their newly decorated homes. With a crew of five and a bevy of subcontractors, some who have been with Herrewynen since day one, Herrewynen Homes offers superior quality materials and superb finished product. While the business has been a family affair between the two brothers thus far, Paul hopes the name will carry on to continue to provide their quality, customer-driven craftsmanship to Norfolk County for another 40 years.
