Strong Defensive Effort Leads to Win over Glanbrook
The Caledonia Menace played a great defensive game limiting shots, battling along the boards, and closely covering men in front of the net which resulted in a 2-1 win over Glanbrook. Chris Chmiel was outstanding in the net during the first half of the opening period making some great saves and keeping the score 0-0 despite the Menace being outplayed and out-hustled by a strong Glanbrook team.

Realizing they had to up their game, the Menace began to work harder in the defensive zone and began to control the play more and more. In the second period, Glanbrook scored first when a player banged in his own rebound despite a great initial save by Chmiel. The Menace continued to battle hard and create more and more scoring opportunities with some great break-out passes and good fore-checking in the offensive zone. The work finally paid off when Silas Johnson scored two goals in the same shift early in the third period. The first was the result of a great deke after breaking in from side boards. The second was tapping in a rebound off a shot taken by Alex Chmiel. The whole team worked hard, but the strong defensive play of Tyler Dinya, Michael Paine, Shane Williams and Remy Hetram and the back-checking of Aaron Oppertshauser and Silas Johnson definitely played a huge role in the win. Next game is Thursday night in Cayuga.
