Thunder's Full Team Effort Leads to Victory
For only the 2nd time this season, the Caledonia Thunder U11 Team 1 were able to put out their full lineup onto the ice for a game.
The Thunder travelled to Glanbrook Sunday night to take on Glanbrook Blue.
Caledonia started strong, as Chase W opened the scoring 2 minutes into the game, giving Caledonia the 1-0 lead. Zach A (assist by Layton H) and Jaxon C (assist by Chase W) added two more goals in the next few minutes, giving Caledonia a 3 goal lead.
However, the Thunder soon realized why Glanbrook Blue has had many close games this season, as Glanbrook responded, driving to the Caledonia net and scoring 3 times before the end of the period, leaving it tied going into the 2nd period of play.
In the 2nd period, Chase W added his 2nd goal of the game. Glanbrook scored a late goal to tie it in the period, but solid defence by Blake L, Molly F, Nate C, Nixon Y, and Teddy B helped keep the game tied up going into period number three.
In the 3rd period, the line of Noah K, James G, and Drew G had some solid opportunities, taking the play to the Rangers net, before James G scored 2 minutes into the period to once again give Caledonia the lead. The line of Violet E, Chase W, and Jaxon C continued to propel the offence forward, before the line of Zach A, Layton H, and Fletcher F found the back of the Glanbrook net, with Layton H scoring for the Thunder.
Glanbrook wouldn't go quietly, however, and scored a goal with 1:41 left to make it a one goal game. However, some solid kick-saves by goaltender Davin S helped preserve the victory for the Thunder, the final score 6-5.
Caledonia will play the same Glanbrook team next Friday, before also playing Cayuga and Glanbrook Orange in a complete weekend set of games.
