Team Burgundee Climbs Into First Place
Team Burgundee continues to play better and better as a team and it is helping them play their best hockey of the year.

The passing and shooting continues to improve and the strong play of their defense helped their goalie Zach Spence get his third shutout in a row. It started with a 3-0 win over Hagersville Friday night. Aaron Oppertshauser opened the scoring in the second period when he tapped in a rebound from a Jordan Guetter shot. The key turning point in the game was killling off a 5-3 powerplay early in the third during which the team allowed no shots on net. Guetter then scored his own goal midway in the third period on a hard low shot that beat the goalie on the far side. Reuben Hill got the assist. With just over two minutes to go in the game, Tommy Woodhouse scored the final goal of the game with a beautiful backhand shot in the top corner after getting the rebound on a Charlie Cooper shot.
Team Burgundee was back at it early on Saturday against Caledonia 4. Again great passing and team play lead to plenty of scoring opportunities and held the opposition to only 8 shots on net the entire game. This time it was Neale Stephens who opened the scoring early in the first period with Charlie Cooper getting the assist. Jordan Guetter then added to the lead in the second period on a beautiful give and go play with Tommy Woodhouse. Late in the second Mason Allemang scored the final goal of the game on a nice shot into the top corner when Guetter passed it to him in front of the net. The strong play of the defense Reuben Hill, Logan Holmes, Josh Audit, and Nathan May has really been the key to the recent success. Back checking hard, taking away shots and rebounds, and moving the puck quickly to open men has suddenly made Team Burgundee a serious Championship contender. They are now in first place but the next game is Sunday against Cayuga, a team they have yet to beat. It will be a great test to see how far they have come.
